Soooo underrated city, it's not so calm at least the old town with all those bars competing to see which one plays the loudest music and in general the crazy traffic and that cars burnouts at 3am. But aside of that it's a wonderful city, with lot of things to do, lot's of places to go and very affordable prices. I was there for 3 weeks in July and surprisingly it's warmer than Barcelona and safer, and airbnb prices are really good. I enjoyed trying food and walking the city, I like to work from

It is quite an ugly city, mostly flat and grey in color. There are some decent hostel, decent bars and nightlife, but not really much for the tourist to do. Yes, the women are very attractive, and it's cheap to rent there... but why would you want to? I had a great time down on Varna, and along the coast of the black sea. Sofia is worth a visit or a place to stay a few weeks, but I wouldn't want to live there personally.

Niš is a tiny city full of green places to walk and friendly people. Cost of living is ridiculously cheap (current $2,137 / month listed here in nomadlist is probably wrong, as you can live here comfortably for half of that or even less, even living in the main street in downtown and eating out everyday).

I was desperate to find any place that was not run down by tourists. There is virtually almost no cafe that is suitable to work from, as they are overcrowded by hordes of tourists, families, people drinking. I had a hard time. I booked in advance for 1 entire month in light of other reviews I saw, but this was my mistake. I would not recommend this for someone who is trying to be productive. You can get everything in this one little town and it is pretty unique being a coworking town in the country side. Several coworkings which all expanded (4), coliving options now starting. Several gyms, restaurants, bars with great food at low prices, lots of activities. I liked nature, the mountains, lots of hiking, skiing in winter if you do that.
