How do you automate your business?

by @cseys 9yr  | 7 comments

Hi,
This article inspired me to think about automating more parts of my business. What tools do you use to do this? Thanks!

Command line tools whenever possible. Allows me to write scripts to do what would take forever with GUI application. Examples are like video conversion, image conversion, audio conversion. Or mass file rename and sort.

For me itโ€™s mostly a collection of tools, there isnโ€™t a single tool to automate EVERYTHING

  • For billing I use Chargebee (automated subscription billing)
  • For social media I use MeetEdgar
  • For email I use Boomerang (email scheduling)
  • I sometimes outsource certain tasks on Elance
  • Project communication on Podio
Then thereโ€™s some other tools more that I use sometimes which are more specific to my work.

Most important thing for me was to offer services that can be easily automated and where customers pay on a recurring plan which can be easily managed. Iโ€™m also willing to PAY MORE for something if I know it will save me time. For instance, I pay more for my web hosting than most, but itโ€™s a fully managed VPS server so it requires less maintenance and their support will actually troubleshoot site issues for me. Just a cool little tipโ€ฆ

I use Freeagent for Accounting&Invoicing, Pipedrive for CMS and also Zapier to automated few tasks.

Also NutCache (free) for invoicing

I just started to heavily use @wadefosterโ€™s http://zapier.com, itโ€™s very powerful and lets you connect different web services to automate stuff.

Also I use http://fancyhands.com, itโ€™s an assistant service with high-quality staff that can you help do stuff like fill out spreadsheets to helping you write blog posts.

You cant really go much wrong with VBA (as an environment for excel). You can treat it like a database storage and connect to allsorts of things over the web, apis etc.

Probably the easiest learning curve too. PHP is also good but a bit of a higher learning curve.

What features would you like to see on Nomad List?

by @levelsio 3yr 3 years ago  | 3 comments

Hi everyone,

I would love to hear what you'd like me to build next on Nomad List, or any other product/feature feedback ideas you have.

It's been 6+ years now but I'm in this for the long term and with the boost remote work got last year it's even more exciting to work on Nomad List than ever.

Current roadmap is here: twitter.com/levelsio/status/1363204985488572417?s=20 and pbs.twimg.com/media/EusS9PKXEAUR8xp?format=jpg&name=4096x4096

The next products/features I have planned:

- ๐Ÿ›‚ Rebase: visa, residency and immigration services for remote workers

- ๐ŸŽ“Courses: learn the steps how to go remote and travel/relocate

- ๐Ÿ› Gov liaison: diplomacy services to the governments to help us lobby for nomads and for them to attract remote workers

Thanks a lot!

List of Visa/Residency Information in Table/Spreadsheet format?

by @innovatelife 3yr 3 years ago  | 2 comments

As part of signing up for this website I was hoping I would come across a list of Visa and/or Residency requirements by country ideally in a table format to assist with decision making. Does anybody recommend any other websites that might present the information in this format (or Google Spreadsheet)?

Most Walkable Neighborhood / City In The World ?

by @dannybooboo 3yr 3 years ago  | 1 comment

I love living in walkable areas of town. I can always find them. But now I'm wondering where in the world are the most walkable places? I'm imagining walk streets (no cars), zoning allowing both business and residential, parks or beaches ,etc.

Any nomads in Arizona, US?

in Netherlands by @info132 3yr 3 years ago  | 4 comments

Hi guys,

After the Netherlands, the Bay Area, Colorado and being on the van life for 8 months, I am now in Sedona, AZ with a few other digital nomads. We are sharing a home here and are wondering if there are more like minded people in the area.

We do a bunch of hikes and campouts in the northern of Arizona. If you would like to connect with us, please do so :)

Are there any tax issues I have to be aware of?

in Germany by @clara 3yr 3 years ago  | 0 comments

Hi everybody. I live and work in Germany and want to go to Canary Islands for 6 months to work from there. I'm going to keep my current job, just change the "home" in the home office part of things. Are there any tax issues I have to be aware of? I was reading about becoming a residence after 183 days, thus having to pay taxes there plus my employer having to register there. Does anybody know how it works exactly? Thanks a lot!

What's the best place to incorporate an online business?

by @octave 5yr 5 years ago  | 63 comments

I have an commerce website. We get around 1000 orders per month and this is going to get quite a bit bigger in next few years.

I am British. I live in Thailand.
Im not allowed to majority own a Thai business and small foreign entrepreneurs are not really welcome. So i need an offshore company.

I need PayPal and an ecommerce internet merchant account. Also looking at alternatives like worldpay. 2checkout etc

Does PayPal need me to be a resident to the country i register my account to? Are there complications being a non resident to get other payment solutions?

Apparently in Hong Kong you need 2 years trading history to get an Internet Mechant Account and they generally turn their noses up at those with less than $1m(us) a year turn over. Singapore seems a bit easier.

I really want to avoid paperwork and book keeping. I hate it.

So i was looking at Seychelles, Panama, BVI, Belize.

Does anyone have experience with payment providers in these countries?

Most nomads i see donโ€™t really have a high volume of small monthly transactions which i do. Im going around in circles and donโ€™t know where to start.

Ill also need a bank account for business and a personal bank account to pay my salary into

How do I open a business account in Hong Kong? Proof of business?

in Hong Kong by @omar 7yr 7 years ago  | 6 comments

Hello guys, I was wondering if anyone had any experience in opening a business bank account in Hong Kong. Iโ€™m getting all the paperwork ready to incorporate in Seychelles and open the bank account but the agency that is helping me says Hong Kong bankers are getting more picky. They are asking me for business โ€˜proofโ€™ since iโ€™ve always ran my sites as an individual I wonder if just proof of payment from ad networks is enough. If you have any advice it would be much welcomed.

What's the best location to incorporate an online business?

by @dmftaras 8yr 8 years ago  | 14 comments

Hey nomads,

Iโ€™m looking for the best location to incorporate my online business (offshore programming and so on).

The main requirements:

  • Low cost incorporation/yearly fee
  • Preferred with no audits (or other kind of paperwork)
  • With no local office/secretary/director needed
  • With low or 0% taxes
  • Easy to get paid from US/EU
  • Easy to send payments worldwide ( I can use Transferwise/Stripe or something like that, i donโ€™t care )
  • With corporate credit/debit cards

Iโ€™m only one owner of the company (not EU/US resident).
Iโ€™ve checked jurisdictions like BVI/Belize/Nevis and iโ€™m interested in it. It would be appreciated if you could give me some kind of advice, if you have experience with one of these jurisdictions.

My budget for incorporation < $1500

Thanks!

Does anyone use paywithfire for business?

by @nouk 8yr 8 years ago  | 0 comments

Paywithfire is an online bank from Ireland that provides accounts in Euro & Sterling for UK or Irish companies. (with no debit/credit card)
The website allegedly allows to open a bank account online.

However, there business service seems to be in beta mode since a long time and there is no information about it.

Non-Personal alternative to maintaing a corporation for online business?

by @blueblueocean 8yr 8 years ago  | 2 comments

So Iโ€™m finding if you have a small online business, maintaining a corporation in a country that has many rules is just a headache. Lots of forms to file and even if you use an accountant you have to bring them up to speed, give them documents and receipts, itโ€™s almost the same amount of workโ€ฆOn the other hand, you save some money and donโ€™t usually make pension contributions.

Has anyone found a solution thatโ€™s easier? Like giving the business to a friend or family member and they can wire you funds as an employee perhaps?

Should I choose Lima or Medellin for expanding my business?

in Lima , Peru by @chris_mcguire 8yr 8 years ago  | 2 comments

Iโ€™m looking to outsource a portion of my business. I would appreciate your thoughts if you have experience in either place.

I need someone who speaks and writes near native English.
Does not have to be a college graduate but should be self motivated.
Access to high speed internet

Do you think I could find someone with the above criteria in Lima or Medellin? Any idea what I should expect to pay someone like that?

Are you a nomadic business owner? How do you market your business?

by @panda 9yr 9 years ago  | 3 comments

Hi,
Iโ€™m a nomad running a marketing business remotely, currently helping small businesses by writing content/copy, advising on marketing strategies and online marketing, and providing website reviews.
I need to โ€˜niche downโ€™ my target market and Iโ€™m thinking about aiming my services towards nomadic business owners/start ups.
As a nomadic business owner, what are your main issues? Do you outsource your marketing? Would a fellow nomadic marketer be more attractive for you since they understand your situation better than someone sitting in an office somewhere? This would help me no end in terms of market research.
Many thanks!

Best places to start a business?

by @gonzohall 9yr 9 years ago  | 3 comments

Hello,

I want to start a nomad lifestyle, and Iโ€™m having a litle trouble to start earning money from freelancing jobs out of Portugal. I have 2 businesses here, but have a plan to start my own business on social media marketing for hotels and tourism destinations.

  • Whats the best place to start a business? Low taxes with light burucracy, if it has good wheather, better.

I really want to start travel, Bali, Australia, Indonesiaโ€ฆ

All the best for you
