Best things to do in Vicenza, Italy?

in Italy by @greysonxcole | 11mo  | 4 comments

Hey everyone!

Iโ€™ll be spending a few weeks (11/25 - 12/15) in Vicenza, Italy and want to know if you have any recommendations on things to do/see while there. Iโ€™m open to traveling to nearby countries and cities as my schedule will be pretty open. I love being outdoors - hiking, swimming, etc., but realize December isnโ€™t the most ideal time for those types of things.

What are your favorite things to do around here?

Thanks,
Greyson

Must see the Olympic Theater in Vicenza, itโ€™s beautiful! The Teatro Olimpico is the first indoor theater in masonry in the world, with interiors made of wood, stucco and plaster. It was constructed by architect Andrea Palladio, between 1580 and 1585, when it was inaugurated. It is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

A couple day trip ideas in addition to mpicโ€™s excellent suggestions:

  • Do a balsamic vinegar factory making tour in Modena
  • Parmesan cheese factory in Parma
There are a couple ones in particular Iโ€™d highly recommend, but not sure if I can put links here or notโ€ฆ DM me if youโ€™re interested.

Never been in Vicenza, but while there you should absolutely go to Verona (of course), Padova, Cittadella (amazing city walls) and Marostica. In December also Castelfranco Veneto is nice if you like Christmas markets. Enjoy!

Introduce yourself โ€” who are you, where are you and what do you do?

by @coffeeshopceo | 10h 10 hours ago | 671 comments

tl;dr: introduce yourself in this thread.

We must all get sick of the same backpacker travel questions when we meet new friends, I know I do.

You know the ones - where are you from, whereโ€™ve you been, where are you going, what do you do, how long have you been doing it - etc.

The novelty of answering these questions wears off after maybe a week, but theyโ€™re nonetheless insightful and no matter how much we hate them, we find ourselves asking others.

So letโ€™s bring the dreaded backpacker questionnaire to NomadForum and introduce ourselves shall we?

**

  • whatโ€™s your name?
  • where are you from?
  • how long have you been away from home?
  • what do you do?
  • where are you currently?
  • where are you going?
  • what has been memorable for you so far?
  • will you go home anytime soon?
  • what have you learnt during your time as a nomad?
  • [insert your own question here]

**

No need to answer them all if you donโ€™t want to
But the more you shareโ€ฆ The merrier!

How to get SMS verifications for banks while traveling?

by @jackgopack | 22h 22 hours ago | 39 comments

Any suggestions for seamlessly receiving SMS Verifications from US financial institutions and other sites while traveling internationally continuously? Wonโ€™t keep my US Verizon account due to cost and currently plan to use local sims at each destination (T-Mobile and Project Fi are NOT an option as they terminate for continuous roaming). In summation, I wonโ€™t have a US mobile account.

Unless Iโ€™m missing something, which is very possible, this appears to be the single most complex issue Iโ€™ve encountered in my preparations, and one that no one addresses. I would greatly appreciate any possible solution that works 100% of the time. Canโ€™t afford surprises in this regard. Many Thanks! Jack.

How do you ensure that you have good WiFi for working whilst travelling e.g. in places like India?

in India by @davda1546 | 2d 1 day ago | 4 comments

We are hoping to travel later this year and we will be working remotely - how do you ensure you get good WiFi in places such as in India where the signal isn't always great? Do you have any tips on where to go/ what equipment you have to get?

Do you prefer co-living spaces or hostels or Airbnbs?

by @davda1546 | 2d 1 day ago | 5 comments

We are hoping to become nomads soon and have booked an AirBnB in September in Goa for our first destination. We are considering what would be the best option for accommodation after that. We are trying to decide between co-living spaces, hostels, or Airbnbs.

What are your experiences of accommodation in terms of the following: reliable wifi, social aspect, pricing, cleanliness, cooking facilities?

How do you find people to meet whilst travelling?

by @davda1546 | 4d 3 days ago | 1 comment

We are going travelling but we won't know anyone out there, what's your best advice for meeting people and socialising abroad? We've thought about the obvious things like Meetup etc, is there anything else you can suggest from your experience?

Best place in South East Asia to live for 6+ months per year

in Indonesia by @miklaskroager | 4d 4 days ago | 1 comment

We're looking for a country in South East Asia that can function as our base, mainly for tax purposes. Meaning it will have to be a place where we can stay for the 183 days required without too much hassle.

We've been looking at Thailand, but have heard that it's very hard to do visa runs etc., so what other can you recommend? Indonesia looked like a good option, but the income rate is a flat 20% and very high for the region.

App/tool/service for nomads to bring things from another country?

by @brmolin | 9mo 9 months ago | 4 comments

I vaguely remember hearing about such a service before, but Iโ€™m drawing a blank on the name. Basically I left my tablet on a connecting flight in Europe, right before my main flight to Thailand. They have my tablet and are willing to ship it out for me, but people have warned me thereโ€™s a big risk of it getting โ€œlost in the mailโ€ if I ship something expensive like that to Thailand.

Iโ€™m wondering if thereโ€™s a service or community, where I can find a nomad whoโ€™s in Europe/heading to Thailand soon, so I can have it shipped to them in Europe and pay them to ferry it down here for me? I met someone in Budapest a ways back who had built something for this type of use-case, but I canโ€™t remember the name of it. Any help would be appreciated!

How is Bari, Italy for digital nomads?

in Bari, Italy by @mitch_dina | 10mo 9 months ago | 7 comments

Greetings!
Does anyone have experience in Bari, Italy please? We are thinking of going from Dubrovnik, Croatia to Bari by boat in mid-March. Has anyone taken a boat across? Is it nice or can it be choppy? (We are trying to avoid planes, to reduce our carbon footprint, so adding more surface travel.) Also, any info you might be able to offer about Bari and the surrounds? Next step will likely be trains up Italy as the Spring progresses.

Quaint small towns/villages in Italy and/or France

in Italy by @theunisk | 3yr 2 years ago | 13 comments

Any recommendations for a few weeks stay in a small, quiet town or village somewhere in Italy/France during summer ? Open to any setting, by the seaside, in the mountains or the countryside - Iโ€™d like to get a feel for local life (outside the cities) in a charming place.
Having hiking routes available nearby would be a bonus, but not required.
Internet speed will not be very important, so that does not need to be taken into consideration.
Iโ€™ll likely be doing both Italy and France, so suggestions for both would be great.

Staying in Italy for a few months - internet?

in Italy by @ld | 4yr 3 years ago | 8 comments

Hello,

My boyfriend and I would like to spend a few months in Italy - nowhere major like Milan, maybe Tuscany region or more south. Iโ€™ve been there before, but not in a work capacity. We need decent internet both where we stay (maybe airbnb) and are hoping to find some cafes or work spots around.

I donโ€™t see too much on here about Italy. And it certainly doesnโ€™t make any list of โ€˜best places for digital nomadsโ€™ - so Iโ€™m curious about that. Is it a bad spot for people like us that survive off of the internet? Is it not reliable?

I appreciate any insights from your experiences!

Anyone has experience with prepaid 4G data-only SIM cards in Italy?

My main contenders are Wind, Three and Vodafone.

Do you know which one offers the best deal and coverage? I have a mifi device.

Thanks!

All things internet connectivity. Let's lay it out

by @melanie | 5yr 5 years ago | 7 comments

Hey guys,

I already did a search for internet/wifi on the forum but couldnโ€™t find anything that answered my question, but I couldโ€™ve missed something, I hope this isnโ€™t a repeat!

Iโ€™d love to hear from you guys on how youโ€™re handling getting internet connection. Do you rely on wifi from coworking spaces, house sitting gigs, cafeโ€™s? Or do you tether/hotspot your phone?

Do you guys have an estimation on how many GBโ€™s per month you go through?

Is there a way to travel on the go, and get internet connection wherever you are at a reasonable cost (like a modem/whatever deviceโ€“if so, any brands/models you recommend)?

Any insight or links to resources would be great. Itโ€™s been surprisingly difficult to find specific nuggets of info on this stuff! Iโ€™ve found two sites, Globalgig and GoodSpeed and wondering if anyone has ever used them?

Where can I donate my extra things while traveling?

by @livvyjeffs | 5yr 5 years ago | 2 comments

I wasnโ€™t exactly expecting to be in Thailand - so I have a winter coat, a few books, and more clothes than I need to travel.

I want to donate or give these things away while I am in Bangkok.

I figure if there is anyone in Bangkok traveling to a chilly place - I have a winter coat for you!

And I figure I can give my books to some hostels - any recommendations?
