Do you know good gyms in Lisbon, Portugal?

in Lisbon , Portugal by @chappupi 8yr  | 4 comments

Hi!
I just moved to Lisbon, Portugal. Iโ€™m in the Alfama district, near Santa Apolรณnia metro.
Iโ€™d really like to find a gym which has weights and cardio machines. It looks like there are incredibly few options in Lisbon - and all extremely expensive.

If you want to, you can also try Crossfit (fitness but better).

The Crossfit Bakery is such a nice place, I went there several times, coaches are friendly and helpful.

Better way to stay fit working cardio & muscles thank fitness club

When I was staying in Alfama, I was walking to Envy Health & Fitness (R. do Carmo 29.) Itโ€™s a high-end gym thatโ€™s very beautiful, but a little compressed. I went in the mornings and it was often very quiet, itโ€™s not a gym that will work well if there are many people at once. Itโ€™s worth to check it out. If I remember correctly it was a bit pricey, but I felt I was getting the value.

HI @joshadamlevy , you moved into one of the โ€œtouristicโ€ zones. Not the best place to live IMO.

Try to find a FitnessHut nearby, itโ€™s cheap and itโ€™s pretty decent if you avoid the peak hours (5 to 8 pm).

I live right beside Av. Roma, where Centro Supera just opened. Itโ€™s a massive gym with pool, spa and a lot of stuff and their plans go from as low as 27โ‚ฌ / month.

Thanks for the reply. Very helpful.

Indeed, the people of Alfama seem to keep fit by walking up and down all the winding stairs in the area. There isnโ€™t a single gym.

I checked out Envy. Yes, it is beautiful. Yes, it is pricey (65 euros per month - and only with a 3 month+ contract). Yes, it is cramped and has an awkward layout. I felt uncomfortable there. It felt cramped, and even with only 4 people in the weight room. It also felt quite pretentious.

The Fitness Huts arenโ€™t near Alfama, although they look great. Instead, I found a place called โ€˜ginasio fabrica do fisico.โ€™ It is a 13 minute bus ride from my flat in the Alfama (I have a monthly public transit pass, which costs 35 euros per month). The gym costs 29 euros per month and there is no contract. The gym is huge, uncrowded, and clean but not pretentious.

If you are staying for a few days in the cityโ€™s old center, Envy is a great option to treat yourself. For a longer stay, I highly recommend Ginasio Fabrica do Fisico.

What features would you like to see on Nomad List?

by @levelsio 3yr 3 years ago  | 3 comments

Hi everyone,

I would love to hear what you'd like me to build next on Nomad List, or any other product/feature feedback ideas you have.

It's been 6+ years now but I'm in this for the long term and with the boost remote work got last year it's even more exciting to work on Nomad List than ever.

Current roadmap is here: twitter.com/levelsio/status/1363204985488572417?s=20 and pbs.twimg.com/media/EusS9PKXEAUR8xp?format=jpg&name=4096x4096

The next products/features I have planned:

- ๐Ÿ›‚ Rebase: visa, residency and immigration services for remote workers

- ๐ŸŽ“Courses: learn the steps how to go remote and travel/relocate

- ๐Ÿ› Gov liaison: diplomacy services to the governments to help us lobby for nomads and for them to attract remote workers

Thanks a lot!

List of Visa/Residency Information in Table/Spreadsheet format?

by @innovatelife 3yr 3 years ago  | 2 comments

As part of signing up for this website I was hoping I would come across a list of Visa and/or Residency requirements by country ideally in a table format to assist with decision making. Does anybody recommend any other websites that might present the information in this format (or Google Spreadsheet)?

Most Walkable Neighborhood / City In The World ?

by @dannybooboo 3yr 3 years ago  | 1 comment

I love living in walkable areas of town. I can always find them. But now I'm wondering where in the world are the most walkable places? I'm imagining walk streets (no cars), zoning allowing both business and residential, parks or beaches ,etc.

Any nomads in Arizona, US?

in Netherlands by @info132 3yr 3 years ago  | 4 comments

Hi guys,

After the Netherlands, the Bay Area, Colorado and being on the van life for 8 months, I am now in Sedona, AZ with a few other digital nomads. We are sharing a home here and are wondering if there are more like minded people in the area.

We do a bunch of hikes and campouts in the northern of Arizona. If you would like to connect with us, please do so :)

Are there any tax issues I have to be aware of?

in Germany by @clara 3yr 3 years ago  | 0 comments

Hi everybody. I live and work in Germany and want to go to Canary Islands for 6 months to work from there. I'm going to keep my current job, just change the "home" in the home office part of things. Are there any tax issues I have to be aware of? I was reading about becoming a residence after 183 days, thus having to pay taxes there plus my employer having to register there. Does anybody know how it works exactly? Thanks a lot!

Where do I get good legal advice/support to have a long-term stay in Portugal?

in Lisbon , Portugal by @mzorrilla 4yr 4 years ago  | 4 comments

Hello, everyone!

My idea is to stay as low as 6 months and as long as a year (maybe, who knows) over Lisbon after doing some analysis from many cities in Europe.

I'm an Argentinian and Chilean (both nationalities) so... no Euro-pass for me (getting my Italian nationality could take 2 years easily). I'm also a remote worker and I have a really good income (I work for a Silicon Valley company) so I can show more than enough resources to stay in the country.

Everything I see online doesn't inspire me much confidence (most sites looks a bit scammy) and this is not a "vacation stay"... I want to be clear my head far away from Argentina right now. If someone has a good website, recommendations, etc I will super appreciate.

Thanks in advance!

How do I get Travel/Medical Insurance for Portugal for visa application from Australia?

in Portugal by @jonathanpoh 4yr 4 years ago  | 5 comments

I'm preparing my Portuguese D7 long-term visa application and one of the required documents is proof of travel insurance with medical coverage. However, as an Australian citizen, if put that as my country of residence in many travel insurance companies' quick quote forms, I'm unable to get ANY insurance coverage at all because of the current travel ban out of Australia, and the Australian govt's 'Do Not Travel' advice to ALL countries. I know that Aussies are applying for, and successfully getting visas from the Portuguese Consulate here, so where and how are they fulfilling this insurance requirement if insurers aren't selling any coverage? Does anybody know or have any ideas?

Where do you work from in Lisbon? ๐Ÿงณโ˜•

in Lisbon , Portugal by @dominiksobe 4yr 4 years ago  | 1 comment

Hi everyone,

I am going to move to Lisbon in July and I was wondering where you guys work from? Do you have any recommendations for working on a budget? Any good cafรจs or cheap coworking spaces?

I did some research and found some coworking spaces for > ~ 100โ‚ฌ p. month which is pretty reasonable but too much for me right now.

Thanks!

My first time nomad-ing... Spain or Portugal?

in Portugal by @jasraj 4yr 4 years ago  | 6 comments

Hey everyone,

Iโ€™m a freelance + nomad newbie, off for my 1st proper trip in May. Iโ€™m wanting to spend a month somewhere and go from there.

I just came back from Slovenia/Ljubljana and loved it there (just a week). I donโ€™t mind โ€œsleepierโ€ places par-say, as long as theyโ€™re close to a beach or nature of some kind. In fact, I kinda like places less-busy and a bit smaller/cosier.

Iโ€™m been swaying towards Porto, but have been impressed by the rave reviews Iโ€™ve seen for Valencia.

-> Have you every nomad-ed in a Spanish/Portuguese city? Iโ€™d love to know where and what you liked/disliked

Thanks!

Anyone here resident in Portugal with incorporation elsewhere in the EU? Need some advice

in Portugal by @solardive 6yr 6 years ago  | 0 comments

Hi everyone!

Currently looking at ridding myself of the 9-5 and becoming a freelance consultant. Iโ€™m not planning to go full erm, โ€œtax optimisationโ€, as I believe in taxes as a concept, but I would like to pay less of them so I can get my business off the ground with more peace of mind.

Iโ€™ve decided I want to apply for the Portugal NHR (Iโ€™m a EU citizen), but I donโ€™t want to incorporate there. Anyone here has experience with being a Portugal tax resident and running a company elsewhere? If yes, where and why did you choose that country/place? Is it a a lot of hassle?

Thanks!

How to find a short-term apartment in Lisbon?

in Lisbon , Portugal by @jenny_ 7yr 7 years ago  | 10 comments

Hi everyone,

we plan to work from Lisbon from mid of April to mid of June this year and were wondering if anyone knows how to find a short-term apartment. AirBnB does not really offer much under 1000 Euro, which seems a bit high to us.

We are looking for a 1-bedroom apartment close to the city centre - budget: max 800 Euro. Can someone help?

Thanks! Jenny & Sebastian

What are the best Lisbon neighborhoods to live in?

in Lisbon , Portugal by @thefakekozy 7yr 7 years ago  | 12 comments

Hello friends

Moving to Lisbon with my gf for some slow nomadism in November '16 and could really use some recommendations as to where to set up a longer term residence! I just finished about 9 months in Brasil (Portuguese is still basic, but getting better everyday) and 10 months in Australia before that. Iโ€™ve applied for the residency visa so I wonโ€™t get the boot after 90 days like most US citizens in the Schengen zone.

Looking for something somewhat trendy, with good places to eat and near public transit. Would love to keep rent under $800/month for 1bd place, but can go up to $1000. Iโ€™ve heard about Santos and Alcantara from another nomadic blog, but would appreciate any insight on favorite hoods/locations and generally getting around Lisbon.

Cheers,
Kozy

Any US citizens ever get a visa extension in Portugal?

in Portugal by @jammingsloth 8yr 8 years ago  | 7 comments

Just found out itโ€™s possible to get a 90 day tourist extension for Portugal. Spoke with the office of immigration on the phone, they said some officers even allow for the extension to be good in the rest of Schengen. Anyone done this?

And while Iโ€™m at it, any cool towns/smaller cities to check out in Portugal?

Whatโ€™s the best mobile-data option in Portugal for nomads?

in Portugal by @swynt 8yr 8 years ago  | 6 comments

Hi everyone! I will be heading to Portugal next week for around one week. I will be mostly in Lisbon and Porto. For working purpose, I need to be online for most of the time. So, could anyone give any advise which sim card and mobile data option should I get? It doesnโ€™t have to be cheap, but it should have good coverage area and big data plan (around 3 - 5 GB). Thanks.
