Bangkok is a really nice city. I lived 2 weeks in Bangkok and it was a good trip ! People are very nice, smiling and the cost is affordable. Some beautifuls temple, gardens, market etc. Chinatown is a place to visit, and Bangkok is globally clean !

Forget Pattaya downtown and go for Jomtiem instead, with a more family-oriented enviroment, delicious street food and russian/scandinavian communities. You can live in great places with seaview paying less than you would pay for a regular place in Bangkok, with all the traffic and pollution. Also, Koh Larn island, an island 20 minutes far by boat is a gift, with pristine and clean beaches like the most famous islands in Thailand.

There are a bunch of expats here, and a lot them are involved in social projects. If you're looking to do something good beyond experiencing a country, it's a good place to start. WiFi is totally usable everywhere. Mobile data is cheap and fast. Siem Reap has tons of options for food and drinks. It's very easy to get around

Waterfalls, wildlife, white sand beaches, local authentic fishermen villages (on both sides of island). One of my favorite places in Thailand, miss it so much (been in Samui, Chiang Mai, Pai, BKK, Pattaya, Ranong, total 2 years). Pai and Koh Chang, and Pattaya, are my top favorite places in Thailand.

On the plus side, everything is very accessible and of course loads of high quality Thai food everywhere, mixed in with a bunch of expat options. Found the western-style markets and prices in general to be considerably more (in relative terms) than Bangkok. I imagine this is due to the large expat community here. Having said that, Covid has decimated the place and many expats have left. As an example, it’s Friday evening here

Having said that, seemed to calm down about 8/9pm so wasn't so crazy. Nice place to visit and probably much more to do than we saw briefly. Can say that we really enjoyed Kampot too - awesome food, lots of people. Has a bit more of a Backpacker/ drinking culture than Siem Reap. It's still getting going again after COVID but seems to be coming back to life now.

I'll try to remain unbiased so here goes. Chiang Mai is a dirty place with horrible pollution levels. English speaking is okay. I did really enjoy a balance of simple, risk-free living at low cost and acceptable quality of living. Many places only accept cash but plenty accept card.
