I have stayed in Cuidad de Guanajuato on two separate occasions in 2020 (February and December) for a total of about a week. Overall, I spent around a month in Guanajuato state in 2020. In that time I spent most of my time in El Tigre, Xoconostle, and Yuriria. We really fell in love with Cuidad de Guanajuato. Having a major university in the city really changes the atmosphere and makes communicating a lot easier than in the rural areas like El Tigre. I was able to get by on my “two year old

This is a very charming old town with really beautiful infrastracture and bakeries. I stayed in one of the traditional villas with a balcony overlooking the entire town. I love hanging around in the coffee shop, and even starbucks looks artesanal. The weather can get really cold at night so best make sure that you have a heater in the accomodation you are in. It is actually quite cold that you really cant stay at the balcony to enjoy the view too long. Internet is okay, safety is okay.

Queretaro is a great foodie place, and you'll enjoy the old colonial city and a view of the aqueduct. The weather is favorable, safety is high, middle class majority and also very walkable. But aside from that, it can get really boring like a mexican suburbia. It is like a watered-down version of mexican culture.

I really enjoyed my first week here, but as I got to know more locals and heard their stories, I was disturbed at the security situation. Almost everyone I met has horror stories about being robbed at gunpoint, robbed by the police, and in one case even drugged and robbed by a taxi driver. It's not even safe to walk a short distance at night (locals told me to just take Uber). Beyond the security issues, scams also abound, and the covid policy is wacky, with hand sanitizer being forced on you ev

Good city to live in, welcoming to foreigners. Lived here for decades and always felt welcome by the people. Cost of living is low, only negative thing is that it is relarively new, with no real historic areas, and there isn’t as much to do as there is in other larger cities.

I think enough to do entertainment wise. Just expensive due the mass amounts of CA residents/expats/business owners, wifi is also weak unless you are at a top place like Sayulita Hotel. Surf break is essentially one peak and crowded, the locals don't really share it. One week tops here.

Weather is miserable for 4-5 months a year. Nightlife is average. Taxes are high. Every conversation with someone from here devolves into how expensive it is (and honestly, it's not particularily expensive... compared to other large english speaking cities). Transit isn't great.
