Who is your favourite Solo/Micro-preneur?

by @hjbarraza |  | 0 comments

Hey everyone.
I’m starting to write short books in my spare time and getting paid for them.

And man, I’m enjoying it so much, since I still have a co-founding position in a company builder and a growth agency. Both are so time demanding and stressful, that getting pay just to write while I chill in a coffeeshop is a great experience.

Besides book authorship, which are your favourite solo/microprenership models; and more importantly, who are the micro-solopreneurs that you admire the most?

Thanks

What's better? Puerto Vallarta vs. Playa del Carmen in Mexico?

in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico by @oskar |  | 12 comments

I’m going to travel to Mexico by the end of february and i would like to know which place do you recommend to stay at for a month or so. Which one would fit better for a digital nomad? Pros and Cons for each place are welcomed

thanks!

Mexico City, Medellin or Buenos Aires?

in Buenos Aires, Argentina by @rayhanv |  | 7 comments

So I’m taking the plunge and will be going nomad in less than 3 months from now!

My situation is that I just started a semi-remote contract with a startup that has a good chance to go fully remote in 3 months time if all goes well.
I will be heading over to Chang Mai at some point, but have decided to do a month or two in South America first, just so that the time difference isn’t so crazy while dealing with the team back home (skype/ hangout meetings in the morning etc)

The current cities on my radar are Mexico City, Medellin and Buenos Ares.
Basically, I am looking for a place that is has a relatively low cost of living, is safe for expats, has good internet and doesn’t have too much of a language barrier.

If anyone has lived in any of those cities ( or other nomad friendly spots in SA/CA), would love to get your thoughts on which place would be ideal for a 1-2 month stay based on my situation.
Thanks!

How do you work without multiple monitors? I can only carry a MBP 15"

by @tschentscher |  | 39 comments

Hi Nomads!

Starting January 2016 I’m going to be starting a year as a Digital Nomad.
The last 5 years I’ve never worked with less than 2 monitors in front of me.
Sure, I’ve done some café and hotel-room work. But all my biggest project has all been done in front of a stationary setup.

I do webdesign and development and have created a working habbit with several monitors on a large desk. Funny enough this is my biggest concern getting closer to January.

How do i teach myself to work from a 15" screen?
Do you find working from a 15" screen enough or do you have some kind of magical folding screen in your backpack?

If you have any ideas for me keeping a dual-monitor setup (The laptop being the first monitor) I’m all ears!

Regards! And thank you for this delightful Forum!

Are there Nomad List meetups in Bogota or Medellin?

in Medellín, Colombia by @dcodyschm |  | 10 comments

I’m currently looking to go to one of the two cities in the upcoming months (or both!) to do research for a documentary. Are there any shared workspaces or meet-ups for nomad anyone recommends? I’d love to interview people who have been living there for a while and do a bit of networking. For you veterans, what’s the best way to go about this?

Are there towns similar to Boulder or Portland in Europe?

in Portland, United States by @j0hnlucas |  | 17 comments

Small towns with:

  1. beautiful nature (mountains or sea)
  2. progressive (clean energy, digital, social justice, etc)
  3. laid back attitude
  4. affordable
  5. good startup community
It seems to me that if 2 and 5 then it’s hard to have 1 and 3. e.g. Berlin for startups is too big, not great nature, a bit too cold. Am I asking too much?

Are there any places in Barcelona that are dog-friendly?

in Barcelona, Spain by @stretford_dogs |  | 7 comments

Does anyone have any advice for Barcelona in terms of places to live that are dog friendly? Does anyone even travel with pets? Or even in a campervan? I plan to do lots of Europe first and foremost spending 1-2 months at a time in different cities/countries/places.

How to build a desktop computer for air travel in a suitcase?

by @neutron |  | 14 comments

Hi,

Just wondering whether any of you travel with high powered PCs while you’re travelling?

I’m in the middle of buying myself a Mini ITX machine. It will be faster than my current desktop and small enough to fit in my suitcase (hopefully).

Any ideas about how to travel with computer equipment?

I’m thinking to buy an LCD in the country Im staying in so dont need to travel with that.

Then I’m thinking I will disassemble the PC before travel and reasssemble when I get there.

Interested to hear if anyone else is going through the same thing.

Cheers
