Dutch digital nomad. I enjoy traveling in the South Pacific and other off-the-beaten track destinations. But you might also find me in Southeast Asia, Latin America and in Amsterdam during summer.

A top city. Everything works, beautiful greenery (hehe), cycling everywhere, happy people, great nightlife... Lots to love about. For nomads? Not a chance. Price of housing is outrageous, and the city is expensive af. They charge you 4.5-5 eur for a capuccino, completely shameless. An hour of public transport is 3 euros. I could go on and on. I'd love to live there, but it's not worth it.

Ahhh Medan. This little jewel in the rough is a place to get away from it all. No foreigners, just you. Maybe 10% speak English. Still, prices are good. I walked into a 5 star hotel, stayed 3 days at the regular rate, then negotiated a rate for 30 days... 5 star perks for $29USD a night. I've been here 2 months now. If you're a fan of Art Deco or Art Moderne, this place is great. The city is beginning a modernization process... slowly... just slowly enough. There are 4-5 huge shopping malls (

  • Gran Canaria

I was in Las Palmas for three months during spring. I volunteered in an hostel and there were many people working online. The Canaries offer great options for short trips to the other islands, that are all very distinct and also on Gran Canaria itself there is a lot to do! You can reach many places with a bus, but at times it is much easier to share a car, especially to get into the mountains! Really liked the city bikes, too!

  • Madrid

Favorite city in the entire world and honestly people who prefer Barcelona to it just simply did not do Madrid right. This city has everything you could possibly want in a city (besides a beach of course). So safe, amazing transportation all over the city and country, amazing location to travel easily and cheaply to the rest of Europe. Restaurant and nightlife scenes are unparalleled as someone else said in another comment. Did you know Madrid has more bars per capita than anywhere in the world?

Don't believe the prices on here for an apartment. 686 usd/month refers to an apartment in a high class condo, right in the city centre and seconds away from the BTS(train station). Just remember this, people working at supermarkets make 2 usd/per hour. If you want to live like a local, then you can save a lot of money. If you don't mind a 5-10 minute walk from the BTS, then you can easily get a one bedroom apartment for 300 USD per month, in a high class condo, plus with free golf cart ser

Was here for less than a week and got jumped at gunpoint at 2pm, broad daylight in front of police and traffic. No one did anything, gangs seem the run the place. I've travelled to dozens of places and have lived in Mexico for >6mo, Guatemala is a whole different caliber of dangerous. Maybe I was just unlucky?

Honestly, this is an awesome place to be if you're actually trying to get work done. It's a bit of an older vibe than Canggu, and there's certainly a big chunk of yogi's kicking around โ€” but I liked it much better than Canggu and found it less pretentious. Plus, you can drive down there in 45mins whenever you want some beach or party vibes. As others mentioned, there's some great coworking spaces, cheap warungs, some really nice spots to stay cheaply if you go just outside of the mad tourist
