Wich is the better international SIM card for data only service?

by @chelocoach |  | 14 comments

Hi there!

I’m looking for international sim card services. I looked for other posts, and I know there are other alternatives, but I’m interested to have an international sim-card with only data plan, just to be used while I get a local one.

Alternatives:

¿Any experience using any of these services?
thnx!

How do you find the public transport information of your next destination?

by @nunoarruda |  | 11 comments

Probably most of you do as I do, Google it first and then research further, if needed, on official transportation websites, travel guides, blogs, etc.

I travel each month to a new city and I find this task tedious, sometimes there’s not enough information in English or there might be a handy travel planning app or uber-like app that I’m not aware of.

I wish there were a “nomad list” website or app for transport information where you would choose a city and be given all the transportation options (Bus? Tram? Subway? etc), how/where to buy tickets/passes and any additional useful information (trip planner, apps, maps, etc).

Do any of you relate to this?

PS: I’m a developer and I might actually try and create something to “fix” this if a lot of people are experiencing this same “annoyance”.

Which German city would you recommend for motion graphics artists?

by @nchow119 |  | 1 comment

Hi everyone,

I was hoping to get an insight as to where the best job opportunities are in Germany for motion graphics artists. I’m hoping to move there soon on a youth visa and was considering Stuttgart, Hamburg, Berlin or Munich.

Any thoughts on which city would be best for a young designer?

Is anyone here an "investor" nomad?

by @gizmocaca |  | 22 comments

Hi. Newbie here.
Wondering if anyone here has expertise in being an “investor” nomad where you travel and live off investment income? I’m contemplating fleeing the rat race and wanted to throw out a few thoughts and ideas.

Have a UK passport so don’t get taxed on worldwide income whilst non-resident.
I’m thinking of residency in Malaysia (MM2H) or Philippines (Retirement visa).

In terms of generating tax efficient income:

  • HK, Singapore and UK don’t withhold tax on equity dividends or preference shares
  • USA doesn’t tax capital gains (but has nasty estate taxes on equities) for non-residents
  • USA debt securities (CDs/corp debt) do not withhold tax (w8-ben)
  • USA based p2p lending should be same as debt securities asset class hence no withholding
  • Eurobonds do not withhold tax on interest payments (look to have a spread of local currency bonds).

Would look to supplement by buying property (have my eyes on a few places in Philippines) to rent out. Would also look to invest in local businesses wherever I find opportunities.

Appreciate any advise or insight people might have!

How do you take care of your mental health during the transition to a digital nomad lifestyle?

by @kalitherapy |  | 8 comments

I’m a professional psychotherapist who is starting out in this lifestyle and I’m curious to hear what specific psychological struggles people had to overcome while making the transition to life as a DM. Also, what do you do to stay mentally healthy while traveling to foreign lands. I’m interested in hearing any insights people may have, especially since I am working on a book on psychological resilience and I can’t think of a more stressful transition than moving from a static to a nomadic lifestyle. If you’re not comfortable putting your experiences on a public forum, feel free to PM me.

How to get around blocked credit card transactions?

by @nomadaccountant |  | 15 comments

it seems like Visa have gotten more tight recently and it’s touch and go whether each transaction will go through. Sometimes it does but often now I am getting declined. The bank knows my locations but in the background Visa seem to be blocking a lot regardless and they are harder to notify. I am using paypal where possible because it doesn’t get blocked, but that’s only good for a limited number of places.
Anyone else getting worn out by the payment approval games?

How do you organize your book notes if you use an e-reader?

by @gpestana |  | 14 comments

Hey there! As a nomad, how do you organize your book notes? I used to write notes on the physical pages, but now since I’m always traveling I’m trying to avoid physical books and it became difficult to keep track of my book notes. Also, I feel that it is so much more effective to retain the information on the book when I take notes of what I’m reading…

Any ideas for tools/methods to organize your book notes on the road?

What kinds of plans are other British nomads considering in wake of the EU referendum?

by @ani_goes_tweet |  | 19 comments

To put it mildly, I’m very disappointed by the prospect of losing my EU passport as a result of the referendum on 23 June.

There may be some UK nomads who do not mind and will be content with their British passport, but for others like me who possibly value their EU citizenship more than their British citizenship, what alternatives are you considering?

How to insure as an Australian nomad?

in Australia by @yeoa |  | 12 comments

Hey everyone! There’s often loads of blogs and threads about nomads from Americans and Europeans but I haven’t come across any for nomads from Asia-Pacific.

I personally hold an Australian passport and Hong Kong PR and completely new to being a nomad. Any suggestions at all or resources that others may have come across on this particular topic?

Personally, I’m looking at broad medical/health insurance, travel insurance and as a bonus, insurance which may also cover scuba diving

Berlin is overall a great city to be. Food is cheap and everywhere, easy to go out and have fun/meet for business. Rent has crept up but still far better value than where I came from. Internet: 36 EUR/month get me 450/40 mbps (cable -> DOCSIS 3.0) Public transport is 2.70 EUR/ticket. No woman I know has said they felt unsafe. Some really odd, xenophobic sounding comments on here. Biggest downsides IMO: service quality at restaurants - not that people are rude, but they don't seem to particular

I've lived in Munich for six months during my Erasmus internship. It is a great place to live generally, offering high quality of life, and it would hands down be the best city to live in Germany if: -It wasn't expensive af, especially rent prices -It wasn't almost impossible to find a place to rent (like literally the only way to find is through acquaintances) -Bavaria was less bureaucratic and more tech-progressive -It had more... young people; much of the youth there is because of the two of
