I’m a U.S. accountant who works with Americans who live abroad, ask me anything!

by @olwagner |  | 100 comments

Hi everyone,

If you have a U.S. tax question or would like some U.S. tax insight on your business/structure, ask away!

I have been preparing tax returns for US citizens abroad since 2012. I can answer any question in US tax with an international flavor. I operate 1040abroad.com and I have maintained a blog at taxsamurai.com

I look forward to answering all your questions. And if you are in Ho Chi Minh City in December, let’s meet !!!

Taipei or Kaohsiung for May?

in Taipei, Taiwan by @autumnflame |  | 5 comments

My partner and I are looking at staying in Taiwan for the month of May, and were wondering if Taipei or Kaohsiung is better for living and working in? Our primary purpose will be working, so cheap food/accommodation (that’s relatively easy for a foreigner to find and obtain) and fast internet are our biggest priorities, but some sightseeing and nightlife would be nice. (I know Taipei has the latter, not as sure about Kaohsiung.) Thanks!

Is it too late to become a digital nomad at 40?

by @roadwalker |  | 36 comments

Hello, i am a developer from italy currently working in south of france.
I would really like to go nomad as i don’t like my current job and i would like to try new experiences in other countries.
I saved lot of money in the past and i don’t have wife/son.My only fear is linked to my age. Going from 9-18 stable job to earn nothing is a litte bit crazy at this age. If i fail as a nomad(n it could be probably difficult to find another job.
I have good knowledge of java/javascript and i programmed in the past with many other languages. I am also familiar with iOS sdk /android and SEO: i was not able to make good stable incomes from apps and blogs as side projects working some hours during the week.
What do you think about my situation? thanks

Low cost + Nomad community in Europe?

by @joaoalbertofn |  | 8 comments

Hi Guys! I’m planing to kick start my Nomad Life style in July, and I’m researching cities in Europe that can provide three things:

  1. Low cost (I’m earning money in Brazilian Real, not Dollars). Especially regarding rent.
  2. Some kind of Digital Nomad community and Co-working spaces.
  3. Security. Low criminality.

All other characteristics (Weather, english speaking), are not as important as the ones above.
=D

June 2017: Prague or Budapest?

in Prague, Czechia by @joshua |  | 5 comments

Hi guys!

I’m currently in Vietnam, then heading back to Portland, Oregon for a couple months.

It’s been awhile since I’ve been to Europe, and I’ve never been to Eastern Europe.

For those who have spent time in both Prague and Budapest, is there a city you prefer over the other? I realize they’re relatively close, and I can always take weekend trips to the city that I don’t choose to stay in.

Thinking I will be there for at least a month. Will be working, but I’ll also take some time off. Prefer walkability. Decent internet.

Any input or opinions on this would be great! Thanks.

Grew up here in the 80s/90s, moved back in 2015 after 10 years in LA and 10 years abroad. I don't get why it's so highly rated. It's a far cry from the free-living, cheap to live, music-infused past. The old music venues are being torn down to build condos. Tech bros moving en masse has caused housing demand to spike, and with it, property values, rent, and cost of living, and no scale with increases in pay. All the musicians and artists are leaving, and everyone here is young, white, and has

I stayed here for a month in July last year. There's lots of cool aspects to the city but I hated it when I was there. The city has a problem with British stag parties, so if you look like you're a British male and speak English expect to be treated with disdain (it's fair enough) The Hungarians can just generally be unfriendly, especially bartenders. It's a weird experience waiting to be served while 3 people ignore you. Or buying the same drink and getting charged whatever they want (700-1500

I visited Prague on more than one occasion and tried something new each time. I really wanted to enjoy it, but unfortunately it turned out to be one of my least favourite cities. Perhaps it was just me, but there was an overwhelming sense of distrust and dislike towards foreigners, you have to try pretty hard to blend in if you want to experience the life of a local & avoid the tourism. I met some wonderful people and and there’s some cool communities to be part of, but another extended stay
