Dirty cheap, you can live a very comfortable life there for way less than 1,000 USD. It’s literally a “new” country, young crowd, mostly unemployed but very hardworking. Energy is vibrant and people are really welcoming. It’s safe and not much to see and do, what is great for getting the work done.

Niš is a tiny city full of green places to walk and friendly people. Cost of living is ridiculously cheap (current $2,137 / month listed here in nomadlist is probably wrong, as you can live here comfortably for half of that or even less, even living in the main street in downtown and eating out everyday).

Thessaloniki is a city spread over the hills by the side of the Aegean. A cultural crossroads since Byzantine times, it has amazing cuisine and is full of reasonably priced tavernas and restaurants. Full of neo-classical buildings, there are lots of great living options available close to the city center and beyond.
