Based on Skopje's cost of living, here's selected remote jobs that would cover your costs:
Dirty cheap, you can live a very comfortable life there for way less than 1,000 USD. It’s literally a “new” country, young crowd, mostly unemployed but very hardworking. Energy is vibrant and people are really welcoming. It’s safe and not much to see and do, what is great for getting the work done.

Niš is a tiny city full of green places to walk and friendly people. Cost of living is ridiculously cheap (current $2,137 / month listed here in nomadlist is probably wrong, as you can live here comfortably for half of that or even less, even living in the main street in downtown and eating out everyday).

But it is also very crowded of people and cars, there is a lot of garbage and inpleasant smells. I would defenitly prefer the coastal area for a longer stay

You can get everything in this one little town and it is pretty unique being a coworking town in the country side. Several coworkings which all expanded (4), coliving options now starting. Several gyms, restaurants, bars with great food at low prices, lots of activities. I liked nature, the mountains, lots of hiking, skiing in winter if you do that. If you don't ski, you can swim in the many hot spring public pool places and you can always go for walks or to the gym

It is quite an ugly city, mostly flat and grey in color. There are some decent hostel, decent bars and nightlife, but not really much for the tourist to do. Yes, the women are very attractive, and it's cheap to rent there... but why would you want to? I had a great time down on Varna, and along the coast of the black sea. Thessaloniki is a city spread over the hills by the side of the Aegean. A cultural crossroads since Byzantine times, it has amazing cuisine and is full of reasonably priced tavernas and restaurants. Full of neo-classical buildings, there are lots of great living options available close to the city center and beyond. The pace of life is stately or as locals call it "hallarah" and most are not in a rush. There is a nice film festival in the Fall and many other public celebrations.

It has paradisiac beaches, with extremely clear waters and very affordable prices for almost everything (Coming from Central Europe/Germany). Internet costs here 15€ for 500GB (no joke) and you can set up your life quite easily here. The gym costs around 40€ a month without a contract and the usual Taxi ride doesnt exceed 5€. You have very nice beaches everywhere and the boat ride is not so expensive. Specially after September on prices get really cheap for renting.

I don't know where the bad (mad?) walkability score comes from but you'll walk through the historical centre in 10 minutes and everything is nearby. You'd be mad not to hire rental car as Montenegro is just plain gorgeous (especially this part) and you want to be able to drive around at your own leisure.
