  • Porto

Spent 3 years living in Porto, must say it's maybe the best city I've lived in so far. Its super hospitable people, delicious food, good English speaking and well educated population, entrepreneurship opportunities and cheap (comparing to Lisbon) cost of living make a combination that is quite hard to beat in Europe.

  • Moscow

Moscow is incredible for digital nomads. Lots of coworkings, including WeWork, plenty of bars, and restaurants. Nightlife is awesome - from usual nightclubs to techno spots etc. It is much more safe to there than in other European capitals (London, Berlin, Paris). You only need to be careful with illegal things like cannabis and other drugs because of zero tolerance. People are great, and girls especially. People look unfriendly because they are not smiling to everyone, but it is just because of mentality.

  • Lviv

The center around Rynok Square was awesome with scenic views, street performers, interesting and creative restaurants, places to grab a beer/wine, coffee shops, pedestrian areas, etc. During the school year one out of five people in Lviv are students and so it definitely has a college town vibe. Personally I think it's Ukraine's best city and I found the cost of living value ratio to be superb. The co-working space I went to (iHub) had a good mix of locals and foreign digital nomads.

  • Florianopolis

First off,the cost of living for Floripa is listed way to high, I rented a whole house for 1200 reais which is around $320 USD per month, food was about $25 a week pending on if you were to go out to eat a couple ti es a week. Beer and liquor were the pricey items. It was around $15 for a 12 pack of craft beers, (32 oz), but other than that, I got by on $500 a month for two months and still had more than enough money to live well, surf, party and meet tons of great people. Everytime I go to Floripa, I end up stayingfor at least a month or longer. People do speak English, butithelps if you can speak Portuguese orhave google translate. Not hard at all toget around either by car or by bus. They have all the modern tech you have at home there. Instead of staying in centro explore the other sides of the island you can find very inexpensive living outside of centro on the western shores and still be a stone throw away from the beach. My house was located in Rio Travieso, SC or the otherside of the mountain from centro. Tons of brew pubs, acia stands, gastro pubs, sushi and traditional resturants. Someplace chill, safe, andcost effective.

  • Budapest

I spent 54 days in Budapest and absolutely loved it. After Chiang Mai it's my favorite destination as a nomad. Pros: *Beautiful city *Super affordable *People are friendly and the majority of people I spoke with spoke English well *Tons of things to do from great night life to the hot baths, bike and walking tours and a vibrant food scene *No issues with internet and I was pleased with the co-working I worked out of (Kaptar). There are also some great coffee shops to work out of. My favorite is Flow, a few minutes walk from Octagon. *Weather was great until the start of November when it changed quite dramatically. *I had an amazing airbnb which I paid $1,050 for 30 nights. You can definitely find great places for cheaper. Cons: *At times I felt the streets were too crazy. The city has a ton of tourists and I can only imagine what it's like in the summer. *The Hungarians are heavy smokers. Thankfully there is no smoking indoors. *It got very cold and gray from the start of November. This had a bigger impact on me than I anticipated and negatively affected my experience. If you're like me and don't do well in the cold then I'd avoid Budapest from the start of November. Feel free to write me if you have any specific questions. My username on Nomadlist is @justin_butlion.

  • Chania

I've lived in Chania for over ten years now and I can't wait to get out of here. It's nice for a short visit but nothing else. Everyone talks about the hospitality and friendliness of the locals... that's only because you're a tourist and they want your money! They are corrupt, cheats, liars, and arrogant. They care only about themselves and are extremely greedy. The police are terribly corrupt and can't be relied on. The hospital is disgusting with stray dogs roaming around inside. They still even smoke in the public hospital! I know this because I spent 2 weeks there and when I complained about it the nurse told me there's nothing they can do. Anyway, I could go on and on about the other side of Chania, and Crete in general, that no one speaks about. I'm very disappointed and disheartened by my experience here. The paradise everyone talks about doesn't exist for me. I've had so many people share similar experiences but no one talks about them. It's all superficial and everything is not what it seems.
