Anyone interested to do a Scotland/Cape Town flat swap in 2016?

in Cape Town, South Africa by @susangaigher  | 3 comments

Hi there! I have a one-bedroom flat in Cape Town, South Africa where I am based most of the time. I like to go on 2/3-month trips while working remotely, and am keen to go to Scotland (prefer Edinburgh) next.

I work for myself so am very flexible. If you are keen to swap flats, contact me! Cape Town is amazing, youโ€™ll have a ball. You can even have my friends for the duration of your stay

Any nomads want to share accommodation in Hanoi?

in Hanoi, Vietnam by @susangaigher  | 0 comments

Hi there! I will be in Hanoi from 25 March and am looking to rent a room or share an apartment with someone. Probably around the West Lake area. If you have a spot in your place for me or want to team up and look for a place together, send me a message!

Or if anyone wants to grab a beer and show me the ropes that would also be much appreciated.

Cheers!

Introduce yourself โ€” who are you, where are you and what do you do?

by @coffeeshopceo  | 672 comments

tl;dr: introduce yourself in this thread.

We must all get sick of the same backpacker travel questions when we meet new friends, I know I do.

You know the ones - where are you from, whereโ€™ve you been, where are you going, what do you do, how long have you been doing it - etc.

The novelty of answering these questions wears off after maybe a week, but theyโ€™re nonetheless insightful and no matter how much we hate them, we find ourselves asking others.

So letโ€™s bring the dreaded backpacker questionnaire to NomadForum and introduce ourselves shall we?

**

  • whatโ€™s your name?
  • where are you from?
  • how long have you been away from home?
  • what do you do?
  • where are you currently?
  • where are you going?
  • what has been memorable for you so far?
  • will you go home anytime soon?
  • what have you learnt during your time as a nomad?
  • [insert your own question here]

**

No need to answer them all if you donโ€™t want to
But the more you shareโ€ฆ The merrier!

Let's fix dating for digital nomads!

by @levelsio  | 22 comments

Letโ€™s say youโ€™re in Thailand (or any other remote place) and you want to find a significant other (SO). Itโ€™s hard because most dating apps are good for local hook ups, or for locals dating locals. If you are a somewhat perpetual traveler, itโ€™s hard to find anyone taking on a long-term relationship with you. Youโ€™ll date somebody, youโ€™ll move to the next place, and they wonโ€™t be able to come with you because they have their ties to a place. Usually.

I wanted to see if I could get all the people on Nomad List together, and experiment if we could figure out how to fix dating for travelers. So I build this mini app that looks similar to most dating apps. It has swiping left (dislike), swiping right (like) and you can in-app chat with the people you meet. Also no installs as itโ€™s just a website!

Itโ€™s calledโ€ฆNinder

It also ties into Nomad Trips, so itโ€™ll show your current location and in the future will match you based on previous and future trips! And even propose dates when you have cross over

Let me know any bugs you find, and what you think I should add as features! Itโ€™s pretty bare now

The Thai Bali and one of the best place to be in Thailand now. I know I had preconceptions about it too, like there'd be too many hippies, and pseudo-science spiritual bs people. But it's not like that. The people we met were actually mostly really chill and friendly and not at all pushing their stuff on us. Also there seems to be an increasing group of just non-hippie general nomads who I'd say are more focused on living healthily (like in Canggu, Bali). Focusing on good food and fitness. It's

Read the review that starts "I live here and I can tell you that many of the stats listed are wrong" - its spot on accurate I will add to that - Vancouver is brain-numbingly boring and dead. There is noticeable and toxic mix of pedestrians, cyclists and car drivers. Mix in a very Vancouver trait of entitlement, and watch the the passive aggression fly. Vancouverites generally are a cold bunch making it difficult for newcomers. Worst of all they believe in their own created hype that live in
