How to find a good apartment in Playa del Carmen for $500/month?

in Playa del Carmen, Mexico by @rusticbohemian |  | 3 comments

I’m interested in renting in apartment in Playa del carmen, Mexico, for the month of March. I’d like to pay $400-600 US. Anyone know of any good ones that are within 10-15 minute walking distances of 5th avenue and the downtown Mega grocery store?

Any suggestions welcome.

-Andrew

Have you ever been called to U.S. jury duty while traveling?

by @krompson |  | 7 comments

My husband and I have residency in the state of Tennessee in the USA and my in-laws collect our mail for us there. We only pass through Tennessee about once a year.

Does anyone know what happens if we’re called to jury duty? Is traveling a legit excuse to get out of it?

Let's fix dating for digital nomads!

by @levelsio |  | 22 comments

Let’s say you’re in Thailand (or any other remote place) and you want to find a significant other (SO). It’s hard because most dating apps are good for local hook ups, or for locals dating locals. If you are a somewhat perpetual traveler, it’s hard to find anyone taking on a long-term relationship with you. You’ll date somebody, you’ll move to the next place, and they won’t be able to come with you because they have their ties to a place. Usually.

I wanted to see if I could get all the people on Nomad List together, and experiment if we could figure out how to fix dating for travelers. So I build this mini app that looks similar to most dating apps. It has swiping left (dislike), swiping right (like) and you can in-app chat with the people you meet. Also no installs as it’s just a website!

It’s called…Ninder

It also ties into Nomad Trips, so it’ll show your current location and in the future will match you based on previous and future trips! And even propose dates when you have cross over

Let me know any bugs you find, and what you think I should add as features! It’s pretty bare now

IMO Tucson is a great nomad city! Cost of living is insanely low even to live downtown, so assuming you're being paid by a company based elsewhere your money will go a lot further in Tucson. Recently three new coworking spaces opened downtown, which has been cool to see, as it feels like the city is starting to become supportive of all the remote workers living here. Plus it's an outdoors paradise so there's that!

Family and church are the main criteria for fitting in. Northerners - Yankees - are still regarded askance. Explosive college population arrives each fall, Tybee is expensive and crowded in summer. Great eateries. Good music scene. BRING LOTSA BUG SPRAY - if the mosquitoes don't get y'all the sand gnats will.

Having spent a total of two weeks in London on two separate occasions and having lived in NYC for two years, both are among my favorite cities in the world. Londoners are quite internationally and ethnically diverse, and seemingly better educated and more intellectual than New Yorkers in aggregate. The city very clean with a stunning mix of modern and historic architecture, and arguably has Europe's best public transit in terms of signage, availability, cleanliness and general efficiency. This place is a total gem! Bali/Thailand vibes + close to US. Also am impressed with their covid policies - not as much mask wearing, but I get an instant no-hassle temperature check virtually every place I go, which is so much smarter than stupid curfews, closures, and quarantine theater I dealt with in the US every day.

  • Virginia Beach

Safe and clean. Typical peak tourist season in the summer. Some fun events during the year like the Neptune festival, sandcastle and jet ski competition. This is not your funky beach community vibe, but more of a planned commercial district. Restaurants are average and the surf fishing can be great. Norfolk International Airport is close but usually a bit more expensive flights than say BWI. Just north of VA Beach you can cross the modern marvel bay bridge tunnel and travel back in time 50 years
