My home base is the DC/Rehoboth beach area. I don't actually have a home; I spent several months per year with one or the other of my retired parents, the rest looking for where I may retire.

Any Ph.D students dissertating while a digital nomad?

by @larsheather |  | 5 comments

Anyone know of any groups or resources for Ph.D. students working on dissertation while living as a digital nomad? I know there are several virtual writing groups around, but wondered if there were any specifically for digital nomads, particularly those who are dissertating.

Thanks!

Where do you spend winter?

by @sebastian88 |  | 22 comments

Winter is coming… Brrrr. I’m in Europe at the moment.

I’ve spent winters in SE Asia, Thailand, south on the beaches, and North in Chiang Mai. I love Thailand. But also I’ve been to Vietnam, Bali, Laos, Camobodia, and Malaysia.

Down in South America I spent a winter around Playa Del Carmen.

Where are you going this winter?

Where are the nomads in Mexico City?

in Mexico City, Mexico by @shellyfish |  | 9 comments

I just landed as a n00b digital nomad in Mexico City, and I am wondering… Where are all the international digital nomads hiding around here? I have been to several coworking spaces (Selina etc.) only to find A LOT of local Mexican workers and businesses. Don’t get me wrong, that is all fine, but I was hoping to meet some international nomads! Any advice?

It's not dangerous if you stay in the right areas. No one speaks English. I mean no one. If you don't speak Spanish, be prepared to use GoogleTr. / sign language / no habla espanol all the time, and also being laughed at while trying to explain yourself. AirBnB is super expensive. The government puts a very high tax on the accommodations. Overall, these shortened my stay significantly, I intended to stay for long but after less than a month I was anxious to leave to a place where I can at lea

  • Tokyo

Tokyo has so much to offer and so much to do. It is easily overwhelming. Whereas I usually take my first week to explore a place Tokyo’s sights just kept on going. I remember ending up in a hidden cocktail bar, a mexican rooftop party with 1 meter margaritas, spending a whole day going only to French places(?), visiting a store that only imported 2nd hand hiphop apparel, and throughout it all the best michelin star ramen. It just seemed endless, completely unrelated and incredibly fun. Six wee

Amazing nightlife and possibly the best overall food scene in the states (lots of michelin-level restaurants at far lower prices than NYC/SF). Avoid the winter and you'll love your time Chicago. It's a city of neighborhoods, so do some research to find which area suits you best. Lots of creative types live/work in the west side (West Loop, Wicker Park, Bucktown, Logan Square, etc.)

Super fun and beautiful city. I find Parisians are actually very patient and warm if you at least attempt to speak French; in my experience, most people who complain that they're rude are the ones making zero effort to speak the language. Expensive though and not very easy to meet other nomads.

One of the most horrendous cities I've ever been to. Too much traffic, ugly architecture and even the food is very much hit and miss. Oh and housing is not that cheap. People can range from very friendly to very much not caring but on average, they're neither unfriendly nor easy to connect with, even if you speak good Spanish. More than anything, from someone used to the lively vibe in Colombia or Mexico, the place is as lively as a cemetery. No music, not even a peep at night... There's a reaso
