  • Playa del Carmen

Not my favourite place, but it has some positive qualities. If you want American comforts like Walmart, Costco, Sam's Club and live abroad, this is a good spot. You can also shop from both Amazon US and MX; there are many US/Canadian people here. It's a very comfortable place to be in many ways. For many people, it's a great first digital nomad spot as many things are catered to tourists, making it easier for nomads. There are a lot of great, cheap gyms for every activity you can think of. I give the city a 6.5/10. Pro: - Walkable - Good selection of accomodation in relatively cheap in popular places - Great weekend trips nearby like Huacachina and Canta - Peruvian food is great - Great internet Cons: - More expensive than other places in Latin America except lunch. - Service in bars is much slower here than Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, Mexico and Brazil. - A lot of honking with cars. - You can some times feel a bit limited to only Peruvian food and Chinese. Pros: -Great weather. -Great Restaurant scene -Amazing areas to walk around and super green for a major city -Lots to do, was never bored here -Good healthcare -Good shopping Cons: -The pollution is quite bad and very noisy - Cost, one of the most expensive places in Latin America, maybe Cancun & Cabo are the only places more expensive -The traffic was probably the worst I have ever witnessed, very chaotic. -Starting to become westernised so a

All in, Austin is a good city. We live in Hill Country now so we're a bit removed. But it's beautiful area once you get away from the highways. A good tech scene. Not too expensive (~$2100 for a nice 2 bedroom apt) for the U.S. Has wineries and breweries galore. Not a great place if you are a recovering alcoholic (!). Cons: extremely hot in the summer; reaches 110 F (43.3 C) in summer afternoons from June - September. Not very diverse. Highways are loud and obnoxious.

  • Merida

Safe, because it's basically a police state. Two cop cars on every block. After you've done the tourist stuff there really isn't much to do. Almost no nightlife center, flat, no parks, and I have to say it's a very boring city. If you just need a place that is cheaper than Playa Del Carmen and want to rent a house to hole up and work, then Merida might be for you. Personally after a week I found it very boring.

The stats are stats are super misleading and the reviews here as well. Locals are staring to recent digital nomads for the rise of housing prices and for it not paying taxes. It is really unfortunate, but I am let down by this city and the people. The only reason this city is popular is because all the single male wanting to go to parties and passport bros, if you are a female digital nomad you wonโ€™t feel any of this because most people that go there are male and are the ones causing the probl

  • Cartagena

Personal Rating: 2/5 As a nomad kiteboarder, I spent 2 weeks in Cartagena just to work and enjoy the sunsets on the water. On the positive side, the city provides affordable accommodation options and a decent food scene with noteworthy restaurants like Celele or bars like Alquimico. The city's nightlife boasts lively bars and rooftop venues, and the sunsets are truly beautiful. However, prostitution and sex tourism is really to much and to present, which may be uncomfortable for some visitors.

Lived in Bogota for 2 months, living with a local was great. The Bogota restaurant scene was amazing if you stay mostly in the tourist or rich parts of Bogota, outside of the tourist parts I only found a couple of good restaurants. I lived in the center and lived in the south of the city. Avoid the South like the plague, didnโ€™t feel safe, low-quality infrastructure, and poor-quality restaurants. Only stay in the touristy areas as the traffic is some of the worst in the world. The weather was o

I love BA! And I wanted to say that you can use Visa card and get the "blue" dollar rate, that's been happening for one year now. Also you can withdraw and change money in WU at a good rate. You won't have a problem with paying by card in most of the places.
