Introduce yourself โ€” who are you, where are you and what do you do?

by @coffeeshopceo |  | 672 comments

tl;dr: introduce yourself in this thread.

We must all get sick of the same backpacker travel questions when we meet new friends, I know I do.

You know the ones - where are you from, whereโ€™ve you been, where are you going, what do you do, how long have you been doing it - etc.

The novelty of answering these questions wears off after maybe a week, but theyโ€™re nonetheless insightful and no matter how much we hate them, we find ourselves asking others.

So letโ€™s bring the dreaded backpacker questionnaire to NomadForum and introduce ourselves shall we?

**

  • whatโ€™s your name?
  • where are you from?
  • how long have you been away from home?
  • what do you do?
  • where are you currently?
  • where are you going?
  • what has been memorable for you so far?
  • will you go home anytime soon?
  • what have you learnt during your time as a nomad?
  • [insert your own question here]

**

No need to answer them all if you donโ€™t want to
But the more you shareโ€ฆ The merrier!

Where are the nomad hotspots where you can scuba dive?

by @madsn_ |  | 20 comments

Nomad-to-be here, wondering about destinations that offer a good mix of:

  1. Low cost of living
  2. Decent internet
  3. Scuba diving

Phuket seems an obvious choice, but Iโ€™m hoping there are some nomad scuba divers here who can share their experiences.

Any digital nomads w/ over $10k/m revenue?

by @homakov |  | 79 comments

Are there guys here with income over $10k month living more luxury-like lifestyle? I struggle to find friends with similar lifestyle who can travel anywhere and not care about the money, who can go to a nice restaurant or bar and not look at the prices.

I am not a douche bag (mostly) who only cares about the money, but the majority of people I met are trying to spend less and it kills so many opportunities to have funโ€ฆ I am not rich at all, but I hate โ€œbackpackerโ€ lifestyle and call myself a โ€œflashpackerโ€.

I used to live in Bangkok and I visit this city frequently. Now Iโ€™m in Saigon and going to Taipei in the end of Nov. Anyone wants to connect?

Music thread! What do you listen to while working?

by @freedomsurfer |  | 31 comments

Iโ€™ve found that listening to certain types of music actually improve my productivity when I work on my website. When Iโ€™m trading though I require absolute silence.

This is one of my favourite mix:

Do you also listen to music while working?

What's a normal rate for accomodation in Manila?

in Manila, Philippines by @acdc |  | 4 comments

Coming here for business for 1st-30th June. Accommodation seems very expensive even a way out of the city, around $700 USD for anything remotely decent. Two bedroom (ideal, meeting someone) is around $1200 USDโ€ฆ almost more than you can get on Air BnB in Australia for something thatโ€™s way out in the burbs & low quality.

Any ideas or is this normal rate? Hardly the super cheap haven Iโ€™ve read about :frowning:

Manila is an incredibly welcoming city and cheap to live. Accommodation in ultra luxurious condos is reasonable, foot massage whilst tapping out emails (ยฃ7 per hour) makes working from here a no brainer. Agree living in the Greenbelt area is a no brainer. Vegetarian choices can be limited in some places but excellent (and so cheap!) Delivery services are available, including diet chef stuff which is unaffordable anywhere else. The streets feel safe inside Makati and the areas around greenbelt

Edinburgh is one of my favorite cities and I've spent quite a bit of time here. It's charming, friendly, beautiful, and walkable, and has a range of cafes and coffeeshops with fast wifi. The downsides: it's pretty expensive (housing especially), and there doesn't seem to be much of a nomad scene. The general tech scene seems to be smallish but growing (CodeBase seems cool), but not many nomads seem to come here.

Amazing nightlife and possibly the best overall food scene in the states (lots of michelin-level restaurants at far lower prices than NYC/SF). Avoid the winter and you'll love your time Chicago. It's a city of neighborhoods, so do some research to find which area suits you best. Lots of creative types live/work in the west side (West Loop, Wicker Park, Bucktown, Logan Square, etc.)

London is the best city in the world - you just can't do it on a budget. It's got an amazing tech scene but ALSO world class media, fashion, finance, art industries and many others. Don't believe the prices on here for an apartment. 686 usd/month refers to an apartment in a high class condo, right in the city centre and seconds away from the BTS(train station). Just remember this, people working at supermarkets make 2 usd/per hour. If you want to live like a local, then you can save a lot of money. If you don't mind a 5-10 minute walk from the BTS, then you can easily get a one bedroom apartment for 300 USD per month, in a high class condo, plus with free golf cart ser
