I've been in Phuket for about a month now. Most of that time I've spent in Ka Ron and Kata beach area, but also have been to Chalong, Pa Tong, Rawai, and Kathu. Karon and Kata beaches are my favorite. Beaches are beautiful, especially Karon. Overall most everything is reasonably priced, but not the bargain I was told it is. I eventually found a hotel I like, where I pay 12-13 euro per night (below 500 baht atm) and that is by far the lowest I found for the quality I expect. Considering the loc

  • Chiang Mai

Chiang Mai has had a deep Buddhist influence running over the last 1,000 years and this can be felt in the helpfulness, patience and generosity of the Thai and long-term transplants you come across. The city has an active community scene (nomads, spiritual seekers, hikers, creatives), several mountains with hiking spots and waterfalls surrounding the city, over 20 water bodies inside the city -- many have cafes and walks around, several public parks, and over 13 national parks with campgrounds w

Great for tourism, bad for living. The City has a fascinating contrast of old and new. You will never get bored, itโ€™s easy to meet people and have fun. Infrastructure and food are great. Thai people are friendly and welcoming, even when it not always feels genuine. With that said, itโ€™s not a good city for long term living. Itโ€™s too hot and humid. Very nice city, but as everyone says, a bit boring after awhile. It's comfortable and feels like the suburbs, with conveniences that you don't always find in SE Asian countries. Luxury shopping malls, excellent hospitals, and infrastructure, are all things that are not as common in other SE Asian countries, (although Bangkok, TH, has good malls and hospitals). KLCC is safe, from a solo female traveler, if you're careful. I stayed in the KLCC area and was advised by other KL nomads, to stay ins

  • Astana

Wonderful city, but for Europeans it might be shocking how low the walkability actually is. Everything is spread out far, and the city is beautiful, but the cars are definitely number one priority in the (rather young) Citys Architecture. Yandex taxi or busses will get you around pretty well. In winter you'll spend most of your time in cafes and work from there. I have to disagree with the suggested "best coffee" place. Visit "Kul'tura Diktuyet" in syganak street ten and ask Radmir for a cappucc

  • Chiang Rai

Don't go thinking it's another Chiang Mai, because it doesn`t. Instead, Chiang Rai is much smaller and simple, not so much to see and do --forget about nighlife, just relax and get the work done. Food is amazing and you can have as much khao soi you can eat. Finding a condo with pool and gym is possible, but there are not much options available. Better book something in the middle of nature -- rent a motorbike.

The most vietnamese city in Vietnam. The Old Quarter and West Lake are the highlights. If you come, try the egg coffee. Be mindful Vietnam has cracked down on visas, and it is not as friendly to foreigners. I was able to relax after I received a 5-year spousal visa.

  • Da Nang

Unspectacular. I spent 28 days in Da Nang. There are some positives, but let's start with the negatives. Da Nang is the 7th city I've lived in Vietnam, I've lived in over 100 cities for a month or longer. Prior to this trip, I had Vietnam ranked in my top 5 countries and was hoping that trend to continue (been coming here since 2019), but alas, no. Super disappointing. Even though it's same size as Vientiane, Laos (1m) it feels like a big city, kinda. I mean, there's not much traffic, but there

I only stayed for 3 weeks cause the life is kind of boring compared to Tokyo or Osaka. It helps a lot if you speak some korean since not many people speak english and most restaurants don't have english menu. The internet is fast but the public transportation is always crowded.

  • Taipei

Taipei offers a great value because for far east Asia, itโ€™s quite cheap compared to Korea or Japan. Very pretty historical city. A typical meal is usually 200 which is around $6.50 but you can easily get street food for much cheaper. I stayed for 5 weeks. Pros: extremely safe and clean Friendly locals Lots of Chinese culture - like day trips into tea fields Great tea! People spoke some English Fast wifi Clean air Lots of street food Incredible transportation - so easy to get around
