Spend my time in Asia. Sometimes Europe when I'm back home visiting my family. Don't own much other than my macbook. Wannabe Expat, rather than a Nomad, but couldn't find my location yet.

Introduce yourself — who are you, where are you and what do you do?

by @coffeeshopceo |  | 672 comments

tl;dr: introduce yourself in this thread.

We must all get sick of the same backpacker travel questions when we meet new friends, I know I do.

You know the ones - where are you from, where’ve you been, where are you going, what do you do, how long have you been doing it - etc.

The novelty of answering these questions wears off after maybe a week, but they’re nonetheless insightful and no matter how much we hate them, we find ourselves asking others.

So let’s bring the dreaded backpacker questionnaire to NomadForum and introduce ourselves shall we?

**

  • what’s your name?
  • where are you from?
  • how long have you been away from home?
  • what do you do?
  • where are you currently?
  • where are you going?
  • what has been memorable for you so far?
  • will you go home anytime soon?
  • what have you learnt during your time as a nomad?
  • [insert your own question here]

**

No need to answer them all if you don’t want to
But the more you share… The merrier!

Do you always have an onward air ticket when entering a new country?

by @danielgenser |  | 54 comments

I’m looking into visa requirements for Indonesia and Thailand (our first two stops) and it’s looking like I’ll need to show proof of onward air tickets out of both countries to be allowed in. Is that true in practice?

If so, I’m curious how other nomads manage it – do you just buy cheap tickets out that you’re OK with not using to satisfy the requirement? Or do you chance it?

Does anyone know European mail-scanning services (similar to Earth Class Mail)?

by @dpt |  | 9 comments

I’m looking for a service like Earth Class Mail that scans my physical mail and emails it for me. There seems to be tons of services like that in the US, but I’d need one in Europe (bonus points for flashy locations like Switzerland).

I did some research and found some virtual office services that would offer such a service, but they all seem to charge ~70€/month and that’s a little too much for the 2-3 letters per month I receive.

Is it possible to be location independent as an application developer?

by @globeprogger |  | 5 comments

I’m a .Net application developer with 5 years of experience and I’m contemplating trying to fund my visions of location in-dependency with my acquired skills or if I should rather head into the web development sector in which I don’t really have a lot of experience yet. I’m seeing a lot of web dev. / designing being successful but I haven’t see an application dev. yet. Would be glad if you could share your opinions.
