Not a very "freelance/artist" friendly city. The look of someone working inside a coffeeshop is still unusual and unappreciated. Extremely not accessible and not disable friendly (Metro, bus, building, coffeeshops and restaurants...)

Great if you have a local connection to guide you, or you are okay paying more for a central hotel or airbnb. 75mbps internet is readily available for residents, and cheap and fast data plans and phones that can hotspot are also doable for work. Plenty of decent pubs, microbreweries, coffee shops and restaurants. Tons of amazing street food. Very few dance club type places and only a few spots for live music, comedy etc. Relatively quiet, but pleasant nightlife. Horrendous traffic, but good metro. Uber works well and loads of English speakers makes life easier here than elsewhere in India. Nearly impossible for a foreigner to get long stay visas let alone residency. But you could max out your tourist visa here and in India in general, though Bangalore is only convenient for being relatively tout free and English accessible with good Internet. Goa, Pondicherry, Mysore or Kerala are much more pleasant overall.

The other two reviews are spot-on. I've been living here for 6 years and it's terrible. Nothing but nerds with no social skills, and trust me even the people working at top tech companies are struggling financially. You have legit homeless towns in some parts of the city, where you see 50-100 tents with homeless people. Some of them even have desks and BBQ grills. This is not a good place anymore and hasn't been for some time. Don't believe the hype.

Amazing, amazing, amazing. I initially arrived there for 2 weeks with an intention for it to be just a transit stop, but stayed there for 3 months. Stay in the right areas (Condesa, Roma, Coyoca, Polanco, Coyocan, etc), take Uber and take basic precautions. It's a lovely town with endless food options and work options. Accomodations are not cheap by Mexican standards, but very affordable comparing to USA. It's just a great place to live, in my opinion. The only thing that is bad is quality of the air (not everywhere, though, but in general). If you are sensible to a bad air - take a trip and see how you adjust to it. It's a big issue, yes, but I feel like the are much more pros than cons. Viva Mexico!
